Stainless steel angle bars are widely used in construction, machinery, chemical equipment, food processing, shipbuilding, and various industrial applications due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and long service life. The manufacturing process of stainless steel angle bars requires strict control of raw materials, forming methods, heat treatment, surface finishing, and quality inspection to ensure stable product performance and dimensional accuracy.

1. Raw Material Preparation

The production process starts with high-quality stainless steel raw materials, mainly including grades such as 304, 304L, 316, 316L, and other customized stainless steel materials. According to customer requirements, the raw materials are selected based on chemical composition, mechanical properties, and applicable standards.

Before production, the stainless steel billets, plates, or strips are inspected to confirm material grade and quality. Mill Test Certificates (MTC) are usually provided to verify the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the material.

2.Cutting and Preparation

The stainless steel raw material is first cut into suitable sizes according to the required dimensions of the angle bar. Precision cutting equipment is used to ensure accurate length and reduce material waste.

The cut materials are then cleaned and prepared for the next production step. Proper surface preparation helps improve the forming quality and prevents surface defects during processing.

3.Forming Process

There are mainly two common manufacturing methods for stainless steel angle bars: hot rolling and cold forming.

For hot rolled stainless steel angles, the stainless steel billet is heated to a high temperature and passed through a series of rolling mills. The material is gradually shaped into an L-shaped profile under controlled pressure. Hot rolling provides excellent structural strength and is suitable for heavy-duty applications.

For cold formed stainless steel angles, stainless steel sheets or strips are processed through bending or roll forming machines at room temperature. The material is gradually formed into the required angle shape without heating. Cold forming provides better dimensional accuracy and a smoother surface finish.

4.Welding and Fabrication (If Required)

For some special sizes or customized stainless steel angles, welding fabrication may be applied. Stainless steel plates or strips are cut and assembled into angle shapes through professional welding processes.

TIG welding or other suitable stainless steel welding methods are commonly used to ensure strong joints and good appearance. After welding, the weld area is usually treated by grinding and polishing to achieve a smooth and uniform surface.

5.Heat Treatment

Heat treatment may be applied depending on the stainless steel grade and application requirements. Processes such as solution annealing can help remove internal stress, improve corrosion resistance, and restore the material’s metallurgical properties after forming.

For stainless steel grades such as 304 and 316 series, proper heat treatment ensures better performance in demanding environments.

6.Surface Finishing

Surface treatment is an important step in stainless steel angle bar production. According to customer requirements, different surface finishes can be provided, including:

  • Mill finish
  • Pickling and passivation
  • Brushed finish
  • Polished finish

Pickling and passivation can remove surface oxidation and improve corrosion resistance. Polishing processes can enhance appearance and provide a smooth decorative surface.

7.Cutting, Straightening, and Dimension Control

After forming and surface treatment, stainless steel angle bars are straightened and cut into required lengths.

Advanced measuring equipment is used to check dimensions, including leg length, thickness, angle accuracy, straightness, and surface quality. Strict dimensional control ensures that the products meet international standards and customer specifications.

8.Quality Inspection and Packaging

Before shipment, finished stainless steel angle bars undergo quality inspection, including:

  • Chemical composition testing
  • Mechanical property testing
  • Dimensional inspection
  • Surface inspection
  • Non-destructive testing when required

The qualified products are packed with suitable protection methods, such as waterproof wrapping, wooden cases, or steel frames, to prevent damage during transportation.
